Prime Minister to attend ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit in Tokyo

Phnom Penh: The Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet lead a high-level delegation to the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in Tokyo from 16 to 18 December.

The special plane of the Royal Government of Cambodia departed from Phnom Penh International Airport at about 8:15 am on Friday, December 15.

Accompanying Prime Minister will be His Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia SUN Chanthol, Dr. HANG Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation SOK Chenda Sophea, along with other ministers, senior government officials, and business leaders from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce as well as the Cambodian Oknha Association.

According to ministry of foreign affairs: "The Summit will be a historic milestone for ASEAN and Japan to realise our common goals of promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region, and advance ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including through the launching of a new Joint Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation and its Implementation Plan built around three key themes: (1) heart-to-heart partners across generations, (2) partners for co-creation of economy and society of the future, and (3) partners for peace and stability".

On the sidelines of the Summit, PM Hun Manet will hold a bilateral summit meeting with Japan PM, KISHIDA Fumio to discuss the strengthening an deepening of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Cambodia and Japan for more tangible benefits for the two peoples. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest and concern. In addition, the two prime ministers will witness the signing of exchanges of notes on Japanese grant aid for three projects related to hydrography, water supply, and e-government as well as other cooperation documents in the fields of digital, banking and energy.

PM will also take part in the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Leaders' Meeting to discuss policies on energy transition and promote cooperation towards decarbonisation in Asia.

During this stay in Tokyo, PM will have a working breakfast with SONEXAY Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, PHAM Minh Chinh.

PM Hun Manet will also meet with the Cambodian community in Japan.

According to the plan, the Prime Minister will return to Cambodia on December 19, 2023.
